New artists are on the rise, and finally the world has brought us a sound unlike any other at the moment; it's a fresh sound with a young lad just trying to get his very relatable message out there, his name you ask is Jordan Cardy aka Rat Boy. The 19-year-old Essex boy released 'The Mixtape' in 2014 after sending it to various labels with Drew McConnell (Bass & Backing Vocals for Babyshambles) responding to Cardy and paying for him to attend meetings that would put Rat Boy out there for the world to see.
Rat Boy has now been nominated for Best New Artist 2016 by NME Magazine following being on the BBC Sound of 2016 Longlist after being repeatedly played during 2015 on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 and XFM. MTV have also had their share of Rat Boy when they released a short interview in December 2015 with Cardy in its Brand New for 2016 sharing the spotlight with artists such as Jamie T, Bonkaz, Jack Garratt and many others. The enthusiasm in the sound of the young artist is a breath of fresh air with a mixture of Hip-Hop/Indie/Rock pulled together as Cardy plays guitar, keyboard and bass on the majority of his songs as well as being his own songwriter, producer and vocalist.
Now three years after producing his own music and being signed to Hometown Records, he is now signed to Parlaphone Records as of 2015; he went on tour for the first time in 2015 with The 1975 as well as performing at Reading & Leeds Festival 2015. This year Rat Boy is set to headline his own tour in venues around London and he is even heading to the Netherlands for a show or two. So far Cardy had only released The Mixtape and a handful of Singles during his three active years but hopefully we will be given a full length album this year to feed our hunger for Rat Boy.
So what's next for Rat Boy? Maybe another tour, maybe a new song? We don't know for sure but we do know that we will be hanging off the edge of our seats waiting for whatever he will give us. For now, we will have to wait and be grateful that Rat Boy is here to kick off our new year properly.
